2019 was a great year for our blog series ‘Monthly Book Review!’ Not only was it well received by our amazing audience (that’s you!), but it was also such a great way for us to read more and gain new perspectives on professional and personal growth. Each book allowed us to learn something new and taught us various techniques that benefit us personally and professionally. From putting our emotions in check to helping us put down our phones and get to work – there were some really insightful reads from last year. With that being said, here are the top five books we read in 2019.

THE CULTURE CODE by DANIEL COYLE

For the month of July, the ADMIN team decided to take a step away from our usual book topics (i.e. sales, leadership, etc.) and grabbed a book that focused on one of the most important aspects of a business: culture. Creating a productive and motivating company culture is vital to the success of any business. It is also one of the most challenging things to do. With this is mind, we dived deep into The Culture Code by Daniel Coyle with the hope of learning the best tips for creating – and sustaining – a positive culture.

DIGITAL MINIMALISM by CAL NEWPORT

During the month of October, ADMIN’s team decided to test the waters for our Book of the Month. Sure, we wanted a book that related to business and how we work, but we also wanted to branch out of the traditional business book arena. This landed us on Cal Newport’s book: Digital Minimalism. In a day and age where the hype of minimalism clashes with the want to have and do it all, we were intrigued to see how putting down our phones and stepping away from the computer can make us more productive.

SHIFT AHEAD by ALLEN ADAMSON & JOEL STECKEL

For the month of February, ADMIN’s team wanted to select a book that could apply to any business in any industry. We searched through endless book lists and landed on Shift Ahead by Allen Adamson & Joel Steckel. While the concept of the book stood out for us, it was the comprehensive case studies that really hooked us once we started reading. If you have ever considered how your business can keep its edge in a World where economy and technology never stop moving, this is a book for you!

DARING GREATLY by BRENÉ BROWN

Throughout the year, ADMIN Partners shared a number of book reviews on all the different aspects of business. While we have enjoyed each of those reads, we wanted to change things up in August and check out a book that focused on personal development. We believe that building your personal development skills will better one’s life both in and out of the workplace. Lucky for us, we stumbled on the book Daring Greatly by Brené Brown and were happy to learn that this was exactly the type book we were looking for.

These two brilliant consultants decided to brave the minefield that is emotions in the workplace and as you might expect – it was an interesting ride.
