As we start to approach the holiday season, we can feel the hustle and bustle that comes with this festive time of year. From decorating to baking to the always exciting gift giving, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and the frenzy that is the holidays.
This year ADMIN’s team decided to take a different approach to the holiday season. While we look forward to the team activities we have planned, we wanted to eliminate the normal gift-giving that happens in the workplace and use our time and our money towards a better cause. This year we have adopted a family through the holiday program offered at Volunteers of America Delaware Valley. This holiday activity has allowed us to come together for a goal outside of ourselves. We have collected donations throughout the month of November and will be using them to provide a family in need the holiday they deserve!
Adding a charitable aspect to the workplace brings employees closer and builds company culture. With this is mind, we wanted to share some great ways for you and your business to give back.
ADOPT A FAMILY
A great way for a business to give back is to adopt a family in need for the holiday season. Employees can come together to donate gifts or collect money for a holiday meal and help make this time of year a little more special for a family. There are plenty of programs to choose from and you can locate one local to your business via a quick Google search.
HOST A HOLIDAY PARTY FOR SENIORS
The holidays are a time to bring people together and what better way to do that than to host an event at your local senior center? Seniors can often feel left out of the holiday season, especially those living in a nursing home. By simply contacting a local senior center administrator, you and your employees can host a party to help seniors ring in the holiday season right.
FOOD/TOY DRIVE
Another common charity option that you can do in the office is a food or toy drive. There are a number of non-profits that sponsor these types of drives during the holiday season. Whether you want to collect goods for soldiers spending the holidays oversees or add some holiday cheer to a children’s unit in a hospital, there are plenty of ways to help those missing out on the holiday season.
HOST A SHELTER DINNER
Want to get your employees out of the office and into your community? Sponsor a dinner at a local shelter. This is an especially popular option in city centers where shelters are often in need of donations and volunteers. You can sign up by contacting a shelter in your area and spend the evening cooking and serving a delicious meal to those in need.
SPONSOR A WALK/RUN
This is a great option for employers to give back regardless of the time of year. Whether it’s sponsoring a walk/run financially or gathering employees to participate in the event, this is a great way to support a cause that impacts people in your community. Check your city’s event listing to find the cause that’s right for you.
