No Hard Feelings: The Secret Power of Embracing Emotions at Work
With November being a busy month for the ADMIN team, we wanted to dive into a book that was a light read, but one that also touched on an important aspect of business. We found the perfect match when we discovered No Hard Feelings by Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy. These two brilliant consultants decided to brave the minefield that is emotions in the workplace and as you might expect – it was an interesting ride.
It can be tricky trying to navigate emotions at work. To start, there is the daunting task of fielding the emotions from your coworkers. From ego-driven tension to panic and insecurity; understanding how to manage the energy from others can be complicated. With this being said, it can be even more challenging to keep your own emotions in check while at work. There are, of course, the emotional responses you have to those around you as well as your own highs and lows as you enter the office each day. Yes, some days you will be bursting with motivation, but what about the days you feel bored, overwhelmed or downright fed up?
Our emotions at work make a big impact on our decision making and our overall performance. Liz and Mollie use this book as a way to understand even the most uncomfortable of emotions in the workplace and they also give you a guideline on how to better determine which emotions you should carry with you, the ones you should express to others, and those you should toss before you walk in the door.
