TINY HABITS by BJ FOGG
When it came to February’s book, we wanted something that was easy to read, but that also made a big impact. Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg was the perfect fit and it has changed us for the better both at work and at home!
Creating new habits that are positive and healthy are just as hard as cutting out the negative and unhealthy habits we already possess. Why is that? Why is it so hard to shed the bad and repeat the good? According to founder/director of the Behavior Design Lab, BJ Fogg, it is because we try to do too much too soon. After coaching more than 40,000 people on an area of lifestyle goals, Fogg was able to determine that the best way to go after the habits you want is by doing so slowly and steadily. Whether you want to lose weight, become more productive, sleep better, or even experience less stress, there is a way to do that doesn’t involve you becoming a new person overnight. Fogg’s basic formula applies to any and everything you want to do: make it easy, make it fit your life, and make it rewarding.
It’s almost too easy, right? The idea that you can start the day with a positive quote in order to build a positive mindset. You can go for a 10 minute walk which can eventually lead to a 30 minute run. That’s the whole point! By making small, yet realistic, changes to your everyday routines, you can plant new habits that will grow over time.
Overall we really enjoyed Fogg’s take on habit building and we found his studies especially intriguing. There’s no denying that it really is the small changes that will change everything!
