Nothing welcomes a new year like planning some new year resolutions. Here at ADMIN, we prefer to call these our new year intentions. Setting intentions in the beginning of the year can help with planning for the next 12 months, but it also can give you time reflect on the year before and determine what really matters to you when it comes to your personal and professional life. Here are three tips we think can help when trying to set your new year intentions:
START SMALL
We encourage anyone who dares to dream big. However, when it comes to planning for the year ahead, setting smaller more focused intentions (or micro intentions) is more effective when it comes to achieving success. For example, if the goal is to bring in 50 new clients this year, break the intentions into smaller goals by aiming for 10 clients each quarter. Not only is the win of 10 clients a more attainable goal but breaking out the frequency allows you to stop an evaluate the success of your intention a few times throughout the year.
LIMIT YOUR INTENTIONS
It is easy to fall into the trap of listing out 101 things that you want to take on as the new year kicks off. While we applaud your enthusiasm, constructing a smaller list of intentions will better allow you to follow through on your list and be successful in attaining the goals you have. We recommend setting five to six intentions for the year and using the start small method (above) to break the intentions into easy to accomplish targets.
DIVERSIFY YOUR INTENTIONS
For those of us working in a business setting, it can be easy to set a bunch of intentions that are focused on work accomplishments. However, we are all more than our work and so we encourage you to diversify your intentions across all aspects of your life. Consider things like your finances, career, mental and physical health, as well as how you can help others throughout the year. Setting well rounded intentions in this way will ensure you give all areas of your life some attention throughout the year.
