For the month of July, the ADMIN team decided to take a step away from our usual book topics (i.e. sales, leadership, etc.) and we grabbed a book that focused on one of the most important aspects of a business: culture. Creating a productive and motivating company culture is vital to the success of any business. It is also one of the most challenging things to do. With this is mind, we dived deep into The Culture Code by Daniel Coyle with the hope of learning the best tips for creating – and sustaining – a positive culture.
To gain a better understanding on what creates culture, Coyle went inside some of the most impressive businesses and organizations around. From the intensity of U.S. Navy’s SEAL Team Six to the creative compound of IDEAL Pixar, Coyle studied what each group of leaders and employees we doing (and not doing) to make wins. Very quickly in his research, we learn one of the most essentials aspects of culture: “It’s not something you are. It’s something you do.”
Our biggest applause for this book goes to the idea that culture rests within the people that make up a business. Whether they are leaders who oversee the operations of a business or individuals working on from the ground up, culture is about building teams of people who feel safe, feel trusted, and who have purpose.
This book receives nothing short of rave review from ADMIN. Understanding that culture is not only vital to any business, but also how culture is built can help any organization thrive. It is an eye-opening opinion on how the right set of critical skills can bring people together. After all, it is the people that represent the culture in business.
